Our line of the Rawls family begins with the arrival of Johannes Rall / Rhal in Charleston, SC in 1749. I do not know where he came from but based on the name and religion, a safe bet would be Germany or Switzerland.

The Rall / Rawls family traditionally has been Southern and Lutheran.

Early church records in Lexington, SC show that Jacob Rall helped to found St. John's Lutheran Church in Lexington, SC in 1831. Jacob Rawl, Jr. and George Bynum Rawls later served terms on the council of Mt. Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Haralson, GA

Our branch of the Rawls family has moved from South Carolina to Georgia to Florida and finally to Illinois.
